spotlight DORIAN BROWN student As the 2022-23 Student Govern-ment Association’s student body president, junior communication major Dorian Brown has become a familiar face across Belknap Campus this fall. The Top Four SGA leaders, elected in March for the 2022-23 academic year, are made up of the student body president, executive vice president and two vice presidents (one for academics and one for service). Together, they lead the university’s student government network across eight schools and colleges. Brown is a member of Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, whose three core ideals are leading, learning and serving. Whether he is representing students at Board of Trustees meetings, talking with students and administrators or speaking at events, Brown lives those ideals every day. Brown said one goal for this year’s SGA is to “rebuild the Cardinal Community, which has been trying to recover from the repercussions of COVID-19 for the past two years.” One way to do that is to be involved, he said, and he encour-ages students to join SGA. “We are the voice of the students, and our success heavily relies on student involvement,” he said. One of his early fall semester appearances included speaking at the ribbon-cutting for Belknap Village South. The 450-bed hall for first-year students is one of two new traditional-style halls that were constructed with input from students to better meet their needs. FALL/WINTER 2022 11
